Egypt calls for free navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, saying their security rests with the coastal states
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said security of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait is the responsibility of the Arab and African countries bordering them.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has said freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait must be maintained, and that the security of those waterways is the responsibility of the Arab and African countries bordering them.
He made the remarks on 28 September in Cairo during a meeting with the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
Abdelatty said the stability of the waterway bears directly on the global economy, and in particular on international trade and on supply chains for food and energy. He added that the security of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden is directly linked to the global economy.
