Al Jazeera says the Ethiopian army has retaken Sekota; federal forces reported closing in on Alamata
Towns are reported changing hands in the Wag Hemra zone of Amhara and on the southern Tigray front.
Al Jazeera reported that the Ethiopian army had recaptured Sekota, the seat of the Wag Hemra zone in Amhara, from Tigrayan forces. Kulu Media reported that federal forces were closing in on Alamata in southern Tigray, while saying it could not independently verify the advance. The claims could not be independently verified.
Al Jazeera reported on 27 September that the Ethiopian army had recaptured Sekota, the administrative seat of the Wag Hemra zone in the Amhara region, from Tigrayan forces. Earlier, residents quoted by local media said Tigray-aligned fighters entered Sekota on the evening of 25 September as army units pulled out of the town. Kulu Media reported the same day that federal forces were closing in on Alamata, a town in southern Tigray, while saying it could not independently verify the advance and that conditions across the area remained fluid. Al Jazeera also reported fighting around Sama and Raya Alamata. Neither the Ethiopian federal government nor the Tigray forces have given a detailed account of the fighting in Wag Hemra, and the claims could not be independently verified.
