Houthi missiles hit a Yemeni army camp in Shabwa; the local authority says 53 people were killed
Al Jazeera said three ballistic missiles struck the camp on Monday while a training course was under way. The Houthis claimed responsibility and said the base was Saudi-backed.

Al Jazeera said the local authority in Shabwa put the toll from the Houthi missile attack at 53 killed and 200 wounded, after government officials earlier reported at least 18 dead.
Al Jazeera reported that three ballistic missiles struck a military camp in Shabwa governorate in southern Yemen on Monday. Officials of the internationally recognised government and medical sources first said at least 18 people had been killed and more than 30 wounded; the local authority in Shabwa later put the toll at 53 killed and 200 wounded. A spokesman for government forces said those hit were new security recruits. The Houthis claimed responsibility and said any site with a Saudi-backed military presence was a legitimate target. Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, said there would be a firm response. Government forces said they had struck Houthi gatherings and vehicles south of Taiz. The reports could not be independently verified.
