Borkena said the Amhara Fano National Movement claimed on Thursday to have taken ten towns in the Shoa area of Amhara region. It said the claim came in a Facebook post by Asres Mare, public relations head of the movement's South Front, Shoa Teklay Gizat 5th Command. The towns named are Zemero, Mehal Meda, Wogere, Meragna, Rema, Jihur, Anchekorer, Merhabete Tache Bet, Merhabete Lay Bet and Amba, most of them within 150km of Addis Ababa. Borkena said the offensive was described as coordinated across five commands. It said the US-based Ethiopian Media Services aired video said to show captured government troops, and that photographs of Fano fighters at town landmarks were circulating on social media, without confirming their authenticity. Borkena said the account had not been independently verified and that the Ethiopian Defence Force had not commented at the time of writing. The Amhara Fano National Movement is one of the seven groups in the Ethiopian Peoples' Forces Alliance for Survival.
