Trump rejected Iran's seven-day proposal; Iran says it will not back down

The plan would have the United States release frozen Iranian funds, lift oil sanctions and end the naval blockade of Iran's ports, with the Strait of Hormuz reopening on the seventh day.

Al Jazeera reported that President Trump rejected the seven-day roadmap put forward by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, saying the proposal "would not be acceptable". Araghchi said Iran "will not back down" on its conditions.

Al Jazeera reported that Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi set out a seven-day roadmap at the UN General Assembly on 26 September. Under it, the United States would release frozen Iranian funds, lift oil sanctions and end the naval blockade of Iranian ports within four to five days, with the Strait of Hormuz reopening and final negotiations beginning by the seventh day.

US President Donald Trump told reporters: "They want to make a deal, and I think that's fine. But the proposal put forth by Iran would not be acceptable." He said Iran was seeking a deal "because they are losing so badly".

Araghchi said on Telegram that Iran "will not back down" on its conditions and was waiting for the mediators to convey definitive positions. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said: "We have no trust in the American side and do not know on what basis an understanding can be reached with it."
