Eritrea asks the UN to take deterrent measures
Foreign Minister Osman Saleh says Ethiopia’s move would destabilise the whole region.

Eritrea has called on the United Nations to take deterrent measures after what it describes as Ethiopia’s declaration of war.
In a letter to the Security Council, Foreign Minister Osman Saleh wrote that Ethiopia’s step would bring huge devastation to the peoples of both countries and destabilise the entire region.
The letter follows a communication in which Ethiopia’s Foreign Ministry told the Security Council on 9 October that it was taking measures to implement the war it has declared against Eritrea for three years.
Eritrea says Ethiopia’s attempt to justify this in self-defence terms is hollow and deceitful, and asks the Council to act under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
