Witkoff holds talks with Putin on Ukraine

Trump’s special envoy suggested the meeting lays the ground for new negotiations.

Steve Witkoff, special envoy of President Donald Trump, held talks with President Vladimir Putin on the war in Ukraine and on US–Russia relations.

Witkoff suggested the meeting, held in St Petersburg on 21 October, lays the ground for starting fresh negotiations on the war.

He added that the discussion pushes forward a relationship between Russia and the United States that is showing positive progress.

Witkoff is reported to have met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo on 20 October. Reports say this was his ninth direct meeting with Putin.
