Meskel celebrated across Eritrea, with Patriarch Abune Basilios leading prayers in Asmara

The Eritrean Ministry of Information (Shabait) reported that Meskel, the Finding of the True Cross, was celebrated nationwide on 27 September. The main ceremony was held at Bahti Meskerem Square in Asmara, where Patriarch Abune Basilios, the sixth Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, led the prayer service. Shabait said the gathering included ministers, senior government and PFDJ officials, archbishops, bishops and members of the Holy Synod, religious leaders, members of the diplomatic community and thousands of the faithful. Teacher Simon Beyene of the Office of the Patriarch spoke on the history of the holiday and paid tribute to the martyrs. The ceremony was broadcast live by Eri-TV and Dimtsi Hafash Radio.
