The UN Human Rights Council has appointed Sihaka Tsemo of Cameroon as Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea. The UN Human Rights Office said the appointment came as the Council concluded its sixty-third regular session in Geneva on 7 October, having appointed seven mandate holders in all. The Eritrea mandate was established by Council resolution 59/1 and extended by resolution 62/2. The Council adopted 34 resolutions, two decisions and one President's statement at the session; its summary lists no resolution concerning Eritrea or Ethiopia. There was no comment from the Eritrean government on the appointment by Thursday evening.
