International community issues urgent warnings over the Horn of Africa
The EU urges all sides back to talks and calls on Eritrea to pull back from the border; the US embassy warns its citizens.

Dawan Africa said Japan's Foreign Ministry, in a statement issued on Friday, said it was closely monitoring developments between Ethiopia and Eritrea. It urged the two countries to respect each other's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and called for a peaceful settlement in line with the peace agreement they signed in 2018. The report named no Japanese official.
As military tension between Ethiopia and Eritrea deepens and fighting resumes in Tigray, the European Union and the United States have issued a series of warnings and statements.
In a formal statement, the EU warned that the new conflict not only undermines the Pretoria peace agreement signed in November 2022 but puts the stability and security of the whole Horn of Africa at serious risk.
The bloc called on all parties to refrain from military action and return to dialogue, and urged Eritrea to withdraw its troops from the border.
The US embassy in Addis Ababa, for its part, issued an urgent security alert to its citizens. It said long-range strikes on military installations, camps and defence sites in Ethiopia were possible, and advised Americans in the country to take extra care.
