Getachew Reda urges the international community to note Asmara's ‘destructive role’ and asks the UN to support Tigray's caretaker administration
He spoke after meeting Guang Cong, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, in Addis Ababa on Wednesday. Eritrea has not responded.

Speaking at a forum organised by the Ethiopian National Defence College and the Institute of Foreign Affairs in Addis Ababa, the Prime Minister's East African Affairs advisor Getachew Reda called the Tsimdo coalition a baseless semblance of a group created to mislead the public, and said the TPLF's alignment with Fano and the Oromo Liberation Army rests on hatred and other interests.
Getachew Reda met the UN Horn of Africa envoy Guang Cong in Addis Ababa and urged the international community to note what he called the Eritrean government's destabilising role. He also asked for UN support for Tigray's caretaker administration.
Getachew Reda, ministerial adviser on East African affairs to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, met Guang Cong, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, in Addis Ababa on Wednesday. Addis Media Network reported that Getachew briefed the envoy on developments in Tigray since 23 September and discussed a possible UN role in supporting the newly established caretaker administration, saying rehabilitation, faster humanitarian aid and the return of displaced people to their homes were needed. He urged the international community to remain aware of what he called the destabilising role of the Eritrean government in Ethiopia and the wider Horn of Africa. Horn Diplomat quoted him as referring to ‘‘the destructive role the Regime in Asmara had and continues to have in destabilizing the entire region.’’ Getachew said the envoy promised to do all he can for the UN to play a meaningful role in ensuring peace and stability. Eritrea has not responded to the remarks, and the accusation could not be independently verified.
