Egypt's foreign minister demands Egypt's Nile water share be doubled and rejects any new dams

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Egypt needs to double its share of Nile water and not merely protect it, The National reported on 30 September. He said Cairo would reject any new dams or a repetition of what happened with the current Ethiopian dam. Abdelatty spoke on 29 September at a meeting chaired by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Strategic Command headquarters in Egypt's New Administrative Capital. El-Sisi told the meeting that Egypt would continue to prioritise diplomacy and peaceful solutions, but that this could not come at the expense of Egypt's existence and its people, Egyptian Streets reported. Egypt's foreign ministry has previously rejected the accusation by Ethiopia's Chief of General Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, that Egypt is backing the forces fighting federal troops.
