Eritrea's Ministry of Information said the meetings took place on the margins of the 81st UN General Assembly between 23 and 25 September.

Shabait said Foreign Minister Osman Saleh met the foreign ministers of Algeria, Burkina Faso and Egypt, UN political affairs chief Rosemary DiCarlo and the UK's National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell in New York between 23 and 25 September, with the talks covering peace and security in Africa including the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Shabait, the website of Eritrea's Ministry of Information, reported that Foreign Minister Osman Saleh held a series of meetings in New York on the margins of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

The ministry said he met Algeria's Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, Burkina Faso's Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Traore and Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, as well as the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, and the United Kingdom's National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell.

According to the report, the talks covered peace and security in Africa, including security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and bilateral cooperation. Shabait said the participants reaffirmed their commitment to respecting African sovereignty and rejected external interventions that fuel conflicts.
