Ethiopia's National Dialogue Commission concluded its mandate on Saturday after declaring its main responsibilities complete, The Reporter Ethiopia said. Chief Commissioner Mesfin Araya said the Commission held consultations in more than 400 districts and a national dialogue conference attended by about 4,000 people, which produced 394 recommendations grouped into eight agenda areas. At a recognition ceremony in parliament, the newly appointed Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives, Ahmed Shide, said the government would work to implement the recommendations and to enact those that require legislation. Mesfin said the Commission's closure does not mean the recommendations have been implemented. The Reporter said no timetable, lead institutions or monitoring arrangements were announced. The Commission's secretariat is to document and archive its records and hand them to parliament and the national archives.
