Eritrea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has written to the African Union urging it to restore Eritrea's representation at the Union's headquarters, the Eritrean Ministry of Information said on 15 October. Shabait said a similar letter was sent to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Both bodies have their headquarters in Addis Ababa, where Eritrea's permanent representative to them was based at the Eritrean embassy. Ethiopia ordered that embassy closed and told Eritrean diplomats to leave earlier this month, and Eritrea then broke off diplomatic relations. Shabait did not carry the text of the letters and did not say who signed them.
