Sudan and Egypt reject Ethiopian army chief's accusation; Sudan says the RSF was aided from Ethiopian soil

Sudan's army has rejected the accusation by Ethiopia's Chief of General Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, that Khartoum is backing the armed alliance fighting Ethiopia's federal government. Sudan Tribune reported on 27 September that the army spokesman, Asim Awad Abdelwahab, said the Armed Forces "confirm their categorical rejection of these claims and consider them baseless accusations". He said the Rapid Support Forces had instead received support from Ethiopian territory, including training, logistics and the launch of strategic and kamikaze drones against Sudan, and called on Addis Ababa to rely on dialogue and official diplomatic channels to reduce tensions. Separately, an informed Egyptian source told Asharq Al-Awsat that Ethiopia's insinuations were "allegations that do not merit a response" and that Cairo "has nothing to do with such polemics", adding that Egypt follows a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. Birhanu had named Egypt and Sudan as backers of the alliance and described Eritrea as a link between foreign backers and armed groups inside Ethiopia. Eritrea has rejected that accusation. None of the claims on any side could be independently verified.
