ACLED says federal forces have taken Idaga Hamus, Atsibi and Freweyni in eastern Tigray, with Adigrat expected next

The Associated Press said Ermiyas Ababu, a commander of the government-allied Tigray Peace Force, told it that government and allied forces had taken Idaga Hamus and Abyi Addi. AP said it could not confirm who held the two towns beforehand, or whether Eritrean troops took part in the fighting.

ACLED said in Ethiopia alerts dated 9 October that Ethiopian National Defence Force and Tigray Peace Force troops took control of Idaga Hamus, on the main Mekelle-Adigrat road. It said they also took Atsibi and Freweyni, also called Senkata, in Eastern Tigray. ACLED said local officials and Tigray forces had begun leaving Idaga Hamus on 7 October, and that government forces were expected to move on Adigrat next. In an alert dated 8 October it said Eritrean forces that crossed the border on 7 October had withdrawn from Adigrat overnight, and that drone strikes hit vehicles carrying troops and equipment. Taken with its earlier alerts on Wukro, Hagere Selam and Agula, the reports describe a federal advance through eastern Tigray. Natna News could not verify the reports. Neither the Ethiopian National Defence Force nor the Tigray forces have issued a statement on these towns.
