Getachew Reda urges the EU to impose targeted sanctions on Eritrea; Eritrea's information minister calls the accusations groundless
Borkena says the adviser to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed made the call after talks with the EU's Horn of Africa envoy and the EU ambassador to Ethiopia.

Getachew Reda has urged the EU to impose targeted sanctions on the Eritrean government and the security forces allied to it. Eritrea's information minister, Yemane Gebremeskel, rejected the accusations as groundless.
Getachew Reda, Ethiopia's Minister and Advisor to the Prime Minister on East African Affairs, has urged the European Union to impose targeted sanctions on the Eritrean government and the security forces allied to it, Borkena reported on 14 October.
Borkena said he made the call after talks with the European Union's Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea and the EU Ambassador to Ethiopia, in which Tigray, Eritrea and Sudan were discussed, and that the two sides agreed to strengthen intelligence-sharing. It said he warned that a delay in punitive measures could bring catastrophic destabilisation across the Horn of Africa.
Eritrea's Minister of Information, Yemane Gebremeskel, rejected the accusations as groundless and said Ethiopia's ruling party was shifting its own internal problems onto Eritrea. The report could not be independently verified.
