UN releases a further 8.5 million dollars in emergency funds for northern Ethiopia
Tom Fletcher says the money should reach more than 202,700 people in Tigray, Amhara, Afar and Benishangul-Gumuz displaced or cut off by the fighting.

The UN released an additional 8.5 million dollars from CERF for northern Ethiopia, intended to reach more than 202,700 people in Tigray, Amhara, Afar and Benishangul-Gumuz.
The United Nations has released an additional 8.5 million US dollars from its Central Emergency Response Fund for northern Ethiopia, Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, announced on 14 October.
The money is intended to reach more than 202,700 people in the Tigray, Amhara, Afar and Benishangul-Gumuz regions who have been displaced or cut off from basic services by the fighting that resumed in late September.
Fletcher said escalating conflict and renewed security threats were compounding humanitarian tensions in northern Ethiopia. Ozonnia Ojielo, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ethiopia, said the support complements efforts already under way by the government and humanitarian partners.
The funds will go to water and sanitation, shelter, health, nutrition and protection, along with the logistics needed to deliver aid.
