Tigray forces close to cutting Ethiopia's Djibouti road; at least 150,000 displaced in Afar

A humanitarian source cited by AFP estimates that at least 150,000 people have been displaced in the Afar region since the fighting began.

A humanitarian source cited by AFP estimates that at least 150,000 people have been displaced in Ethiopia's Afar region alone since fighting resumed in the north. The figure could not be independently verified, and telephone and internet links in the area have been disrupted.

Tigray forces are reported to have taken the Zone Two town of Erebti after heavy artillery bombardment, and are said to be advancing on Afdeera, about 100 kilometres to the east.

Analysts say the widening of the front into Afar puts at risk the Djibouti corridor, through which almost all of Ethiopia's imports and fuel pass.

Battlefield accounts from both sides could not be independently verified.
