Eritrea severs all diplomatic ties with Ethiopia and accuses it of invading Eritrean ports and coastal areas
The ministry said Ethiopia had pursued three years of "incessant hostility" and that Eritrea had no option but to reciprocate in kind.

Eritrea's Foreign Minister Osman Saleh told Middle East Eye, in an interview in Asmara published on 1 October, that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed "has a two-waters strategy like Israel. Only for him it is from the Nile River to the Red Sea". Middle East Eye said Saleh also told it that Asmara believes the United Arab Emirates is cooperating with Israel against Eritrea.
Eritrea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on 1 October that it would sever all diplomatic ties with Ethiopia. It called Ethiopia's accusations "astounding", and said it was Ethiopia that had invaded Eritrean ports and coastal areas and had hosted and armed Eritrean armed opposition groups.
Eritrea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on 1 October that it would sever all diplomatic ties with Ethiopia, hours after Ethiopia announced it was closing its embassy in Asmara and declared ten Eritrean diplomats, including the Charge d''Affaires, persona non grata.
In a press release issued in Asmara and carried by Shabait, the ministry said Ethiopia's accusations against Eritrea were "astounding" and that the reverse was true. It said Ethiopia had pursued "incessant hostility" towards Eritrea for three years, including what it described as the invasion of Eritrean ports and coastal areas in pursuit of "the imperative of acquiring sovereign access to the sea", and had hosted and armed Eritrean armed opposition groups to foment internal conflict.
The ministry said Eritrea had displayed "patience and restraint" but now had "no option but to reciprocate in kind and sever all diplomatic ties with Ethiopia with all the negative corollaries that this entails".
Ethiopia's foreign ministry said earlier on Thursday that its decision followed Eritrea's "direct and indirect acts of hostility and belligerence". Eritrea has denied supporting the alliance fighting federal forces in northern Ethiopia.
