Darfur authorities reopen the Tina crossing with Chad for aid deliveries

Sudan Tribune says 60 aid trucks crossed in a week on a route that cuts about four days off the journey into North Darfur.

Sudan Tribune reported that regional authorities in Darfur have reopened the Tina border crossing with Chad for humanitarian deliveries. Regional aid coordinator Abdulbaqi Mohamed Hamed said the crossing secures year-round routes to localities including Kabkabiya and Kutum. Sixty aid trucks crossed through Tina during the week.

Regional authorities in Darfur have reopened the Tina border crossing with Chad for humanitarian deliveries, Sudan Tribune reported. Abdulbaqi Mohamed Hamed, the regional humanitarian aid coordinator and director of social welfare, said the crossing would secure year-round routes for food, medicine and shelter to localities including Kabkabiya, Al-Sereif, Kutum, Tina, Karnoi and Um Baru, and that the route cuts the journey from about four days to one day or less compared with southern crossings, lowering shipping costs. Sudan Tribune said 60 aid trucks crossed through Tina during the week and a further 35 entered through Al-Dabbah for other parts of Darfur. It said most hospitals in Darfur have closed because of the war.
