The Ethiopian News Agency reported that Patriarch Abune Mathias called for peace in Ethiopia at the Meskel Demera at Meskel Square in Addis Ababa on 26 September, saying the primary message of the Cross is to establish peace and unity, forgiveness and reconciliation.

Patriarch Abune Mathias of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church called for peace in Ethiopia at the Meskel Demera celebration at Meskel Square in Addis Ababa on 26 September, the Ethiopian News Agency reported. He said the primary message of the Cross is to establish peace and unity, forgiveness and reconciliation, and love and harmony among all mankind, and urged Ethiopians to face the obstacles hindering their unity with patience and farsightedness. The agency said bishops, government officials, diplomats and members of the public attended the ceremony.
