UMD Media reported on Monday that the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) programme in Tigray, which had been suspended, has resumed, with former fighters handing over weapons to nearby Ethiopian army units and registering at centres at the Tigray Police Commission in Mekelle. It said the report came from Mekelle's state FM radio, in its first official post since the city came under the control of the Ethiopian National Defence Force and the Tigray Peace Force. UMD Media said the number of fighters registered, the weapons handed in and the reintegration support available were not disclosed, and that it had not independently confirmed the account. It said the National Rehabilitation Commission called on the remaining fighters to lay down their weapons and asked the Ethiopian government and international partners for support.
