Two drone explosions reported at Ethiopia's Bishoftu air force base; senior pilot Kassahun Lema killed

Ethiopia Observer says the blasts happened overnight from Saturday to Sunday at the base 40km south-east of Addis Ababa. The government and the air force have not commented, and the report could not be independently verified.

Ethiopia Observer reports two drone explosions at the Bishoftu air force base, killing senior pilot Kassahun Lema. ACLED recorded two ENDF personnel killed in a drone-related incident there on 27 September.

Ethiopia Observer reported on 29 September that two drone explosions took place inside the Ethiopian Air Force base at Bishoftu overnight from Saturday to Sunday. The outlet said the first blast, caused by a small short-range drone that exploded inside the base, caused no casualties. The second explosion, it said, happened while a helicopter was being repositioned and killed a senior pilot, Kassahun Lema, wounding a technician and a cook. The outlet said its account came from people who were at the base. ACLED, in a log published on 28 September, recorded that two members of the Ethiopian National Defence Force were killed in a drone-related incident at the Ethiopian air force base in Bishoftu, Oromia, on 27 September. Bishoftu lies only 40km from Addis Ababa. Neither the Ethiopian government nor the air force has commented. The reports could not be independently verified.
