In a statement on X, the group said those freed include eight women accused of "narco-terrorism" in 2021 and six people accused of collaborating with the United States in a 2020 coup attempt against Nicolas Maduro. "We will remain vigilant and continue to demand full freedom for all those who are still waiting," it said. The releases followed a second round of negotiations with the opposition held on Friday; a first round took place in August 2026. The rights group Foro Penal said 344 political prisoners were still held as of 18 September, down from 391 on 10 August. More than 1,000 people have been released in total since Maduro left power in January 2026.
