Ethiopia's Somali region council re-elects Mustafa Omer president and Ibrahim Osman Farah vice president
The region's seventh council held its first session in Jigjiga on 1 October. Mubashir Dubad Rage was elected the new speaker.

The Somali Prosperity Party said the seventh council of Ethiopia's Somali region elected Mustafa Muhumed Omer as president of the region. Ibrahim Osman Farah was re-elected vice president and Mubashir Dubad Rage was elected speaker.
The Somali Prosperity Party said the seventh council of Ethiopia's Somali region elected Mustafa Muhumed Omer as president of the region at its first session in Jigjiga on 1 October, and that Ibrahim Osman Farah was re-elected vice president.
Dawan reported that the council also elected Mubashir Dubad Rage, previously the region's planning minister, as speaker, and Hanan Abdo as deputy speaker. Omer has led the region since August 2018. The incoming cabinet is awaiting approval by the council.
