Telecoms and internet cut in Tigray

The internet monitor NetBlocks said it had detected an internet disruption in northern Ethiopia corresponding to reports of a telecoms blackout in Tigray. Reuters, citing an unnamed source, reported that the TPLF had ordered the private operator Safaricom and state-owned Ethio Telecom to sever phone and internet access in the region, possibly to reduce the government's drone advantage. Al Jazeera said people in Tigray had rushed to stock up on basic supplies and withdraw cash. A telecoms blackout and supplies blockade were imposed on Tigray during the 2020-2022 war.
