Ethiopian Orthodox Patriarch calls for peace and reconciliation at Meskel
Patriarch Abune Mathias told the Meskel-Demera celebration that the central message of the Cross is peace, unity, forgiveness and reconciliation.
The Ethiopian News Agency said Patriarch Abune Mathias told the Meskel-Demera celebration in Addis Ababa that "the primary message of the Cross is to establish peace and unity, forgiveness and reconciliation", and urged Ethiopians to address the challenges to national unity with "patience and farsightedness".
The Ethiopian News Agency reported on 26 September that Patriarch Abune Mathias of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church told the Meskel-Demera celebration in Addis Ababa: "The primary message of the Cross is to establish peace and unity, forgiveness and reconciliation, as well as love and harmony among all mankind." He urged Ethiopians to address the challenges hindering national unity and progress with "patience and farsightedness", and said sustained effort was needed to bring lasting peace and unity across the country. The festival was marked as fighting continues in northern Ethiopia.
