UMD Media said local sources in Elidar woreda in Ethiopia's Afar region dismissed reports that Ethiopian troops had crossed into Eritrea and taken Daba Sima, saying ENDF mechanized forces were not even close to the Bure frontline itself, while adding that fears of a military confrontation remained high. A source in Adigrat told UMD Media that shelling was heard north of the city towards Farsi for about an hour on Monday morning, and that a large number of soldiers moved towards Zalambessa in the evening. UMD Media said it had not verified the accounts, and that an Ethiopian federal source had earlier told it that troops entered Eritrean territory on Sunday.
EEPA said in its situation report of 12 October that Bure, Denakil, Garbo and Awala in Ethiopia's Afar region are now active combat zones between Ethiopian and Eritrean forces, with clashes involving infantry, heavy weapons and aircraft. It also said that, according to unverified reports, Ethiopian troops crossed into Eritrea on 11 October and took Daba Sima in the Southern Denkalya subregion. Natna News could not verify the report.
The Europe External Programme with Africa (EEPA) said in its situation report of 12 October that Bure, Denakil, Garbo and Awala in Ethiopia's Afar region are now considered active combat zones between Ethiopian and Eritrean forces, and that the clashes involve infantry, heavy weapons and aircraft. The same report said that, according to unverified reports, Ethiopian National Defence Force troops crossed into Eritrea on 11 October and took control of Daba Sima, a village in Eritrea's Southern Denkalya subregion.
