UN says the war in Ethiopia is deeply alarming
Spokesman Stephane Dujarric urges all sides to stop and return to the Pretoria agreement.

The spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, told a press briefing that the Secretary-General is deeply alarmed by the fighting in the Tigray, Afar and Amhara regions of Ethiopia.
He said all concerned parties should immediately halt hostile action, and that the signatories of the Pretoria agreement should return to the negotiating table under that agreement.
The Secretary-General does not support actions that could drive the region into wider conflict, and reports that Eritrean troops have entered Ethiopia are a source of concern, the spokesman said.
He called on all states in the region to abide by the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, and to respect the principle of non-interference. His office stands ready to help resolve the matter peacefully.
