Qatar restates its mediation role, citing the Eritrea-Djibouti file as a model
Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said mediation has become a central theme of Qatar's foreign policy.

Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, has said the country is determined to remain active in mediation.
"The leadership is determined that we cannot be just sitting silent without trying our best to make sure that we get the best for our region and for our country," he said in an interview broadcast on 30 September.
He pointed to Qatar's record across several files, among them Eritrea and Djibouti, Sudan, the Afghanistan-United States talks, Gaza, and mediation between Iran and the United States.
Qatar brokered a ceasefire between Eritrea and Djibouti in June 2010 and renewed it in 2011, according to the record published by its own foreign ministry.
"There are many fronts where we have developed and cultivated this skill within our institutions and our people to become a key theme of Qatar's foreign policy," he said.
