EU warns the tensions in the Horn of Africa could trigger a wider conflict
It calls on external actors to refrain from interference and on all fronts to de-escalate.

The European Union warned in a statement issued on 5 October that the continued escalation of violence in Ethiopia, and in particular the heightened tension between Ethiopia and Eritrea, risks triggering a broader regional conflict.
It said this would carry severe consequences for peace and stability across the Horn of Africa.
The Union called for immediate de-escalation on all fronts and urged those involved to refrain from actions or rhetoric that could increase tensions. It said the parties to the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement should recommit to its complete implementation within the African Union framework.
Demanding respect for international humanitarian law, protection of civilians and unhindered humanitarian access, the EU restated that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected and that external actors should refrain from interference.
