Egypt will not watch in silence if Ethiopia moves on Eritrea
Journalist Khaled Mahmoud says any military move on the Red Sea would upset the regional balance.

The Egyptian writer and journalist Khaled Mahmoud has written that Egypt will not stand idly by while Ethiopia becomes a direct threat to the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.
Egypt is closely watching Ethiopia’s attempts to widen the war in Tigray or to provoke a confrontation with Eritrea, he said.
Any new military move on the Red Sea, or any threat to Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, would directly disturb the regional balance of power and the security of the maritime route, as well as Egypt’s relations with Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia.
He concluded that the drums of war being beaten by the Ethiopian government continue, and warned that such a war would have devastating consequences for the government itself and for the Ethiopian people.
