Channel 4 apologises over its report on Eritrean troops
Editor Lindsey Hilsum says the footage used was not current and the piece is being taken down.

Channel 4 News international editor Lindsey Hilsum has apologised after the broadcaster’s report that Eritrean troops had invaded Ethiopia used pictures and video that turned out to be false.
Channel 4 had published the report with accompanying stills and footage. Various parties pointed out that the material presented as evidence was not current.
In a post on X, Hilsum wrote that they had made a mistake using the opening footage, which they failed to realise was not current, and that the piece was being taken down.
The images are understood to have been archive material from January 2023 showing Eritrean forces leaving Ethiopia, which the channel used in recent days to illustrate a report that Eritrean troops were invading.
