Somalia declares neutrality in the Ethiopia-Eritrea standoff
Officials say Mogadishu's position rests on preserving peace and protecting the national interest.

Somalia has formally announced that it will remain neutral in the escalating military tension and confrontation between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
The decision comes at a time of growing fears that the renewed war in northern Ethiopia could widen into a major regional conflict.
Somalia's deputy foreign minister, Hassan Mohamed Ali Nadaara, told BBC Somali that Mogadishu's position is grounded in preserving peace, protecting the national interest and maintaining cooperation with neighbouring countries.
