Somalia's cabinet holds an emergency session
It approved a decision on implementing the constitution and set federal elections for 2027.

Somalia's council of ministers called a special emergency session, in place of its usual meeting, ahead of a constitutional deadline and approved a decision focused on implementing the constitution.
The session, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, concentrated on state building, strengthening government institutions and developing national administrative systems.
The council appointed a committee led by the minister of justice and constitutional affairs to prepare, within two months, a draft law setting the number of government members and their responsibilities. It would be the first such law the country has had since 1968.
Prime Minister Hamza said the government is working to hold a one-person-one-vote federal election in 2027 under the constitution. It is the first time the cabinet has formally named a date for the next general election.
