Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel said Eritrea welcomes the United States decision to lift the sanctions affecting the country.

He described the step as reflecting accumulated constructive political goodwill on both sides, and said it could open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation, particularly in investment and trade.

Speaking in a long interview with the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, the minister said the sanctions had never been justified by any measure and had caused clear economic damage.

Eritrea has advantages across several sectors, he said, and its door is open to investment, supported by legal and administrative structures already in place.
