India’s external affairs minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, arrived in Addis Ababa on the morning of Friday 9 October 2026 for an official visit. The stop closes a three-nation tour of Africa.
Jaishankar is holding direct talks with senior Ethiopian government officials, aimed at strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership between New Delhi and Addis Ababa.
Diplomats say the talks cover political, economic and trade co-operation, and that current regional affairs and security in the Horn of Africa are among the main items on the agenda.
The visit comes as Ethiopia has just approved a new cabinet and as regional security tensions widen. It is seen as giving the two countries’ long relationship a new footing.
