India bought arms worth about 7 billion US dollars in 2025, according to reports. That is roughly 5.8 percent of total world arms purchases, making India the second-largest arms buyer after Poland.
Most of what India bought was Russian, the same reports say.
India spent more than 25 billion dollars on arms between 2022 and 2025, and that figure is projected to rise above 45 billion dollars between 2026 and 2029.
Military analysts estimate that total world arms purchases could exceed 630 billion dollars between 2026 and 2029.
The military and security crises in the Middle East and in Eastern Europe are given as the reason for the rise.
