Russia offers to host Eritrea–Ethiopia talks in Moscow
Deputy foreign minister says a dialogue session could be convened alongside the Russia–Africa summit.

Russia has formally said it is ready to prepare a dialogue session in Moscow aimed at resolving the tension between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov said the session could be held alongside the Russia–Africa summit, and added that he hoped the two countries would make use of the opportunity.
The initiative comes as diplomatic tension between the two neighbours continues to rise. Britain, following the United States, said it opposes any violation of borders and called on both countries to show restraint and return to dialogue. Canada has made a similar appeal, warning that the conflict risks spreading across the region.
Ethiopia has repeatedly accused Eritrea of involvement in the fighting that it says began in September. Eritrea has rejected the accusation as baseless and in turn accuses the Prosperity Party leadership of trying to reach the Red Sea by force. The International Crisis Group has said the two countries are entering a dangerous phase that could lead to a wider war.
Analysts say Moscow’s proposal offers a diplomatic opening for the two sides to find a negotiated settlement.
