Federal troops begin withdrawing from Mekelle, falling back toward Kuiha
Reports say the warning Debretsion gave five days ago is now being borne out.

Federal troops, who were reported to have entered Mekelle without a shot being fired, began leaving the city on Monday 5 October and are falling back eastward toward Kuiha, some nine kilometres away.
Ethiopian media outlets linked to the government have still not formally confirmed the earlier reports that the city had been taken.
The president of the Tigray region, Debretsion Gebremichael, said five days ago that the forces entering the region knew the way in but not the way out.
A TPLF spokesman, Michael Asgedom, said the new offensive had produced no result and that Tigray forces had preserved their weapons and their strategic formation.
