Federal commanders call Tigray a garrison, sources say
Wide-ranging plans are said to be under way to turn the region into a major military base for the federal government.

Extensive plans are under way to turn Tigray into an important military base for the federal government, according to reports citing sources among Prosperity Party officials.
The sources say the federal side has begun preparations for an unusually large military encampment in Mekelle, and that thousands of young people are being detained and pressured — under the guise of resettlement — into joining the group known as the Tigray Peace Force.
One source said: “I saw young fighters in Tigray moving towards civilian life through the DDR process. But as soon as they gather, they are pressured to enlist in the Tigray Peace Force.”
The Prosperity Party, which has directed that Tigray remain under a command post, has been moving quickly to establish an administrative structure. Tigray Media Service reported that Dr Abraham Belay and Ato Atakilti Haileselassie have been appointed to lead the command post.
NatnaTV has not been able to verify these reports independently.
