Eritrea sits 128th out of 163 countries in the 2026 Global Peace Index, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

The index scores countries on ongoing domestic and international conflict, militarisation, and the level of safety and security within society.

Within the Horn of Africa, the report places Eritrea ahead of Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan and Kenya — Djibouti is the one regional neighbour ranked higher.

Ethiopia scored 3.3 and ranked 138th. Iceland again topped the global table with 1.1, while Russia came last of the 163 states and territories assessed.
