Eritrea rebukes Ethiopia in a state commentary
Prosperity is spending far beyond Ethiopia's means on modern weaponry and troop training, it says.

In a published commentary, the Eritrean government said that after the war fought in northern Ethiopia between 2020 and 2022 ended, the Prosperity government spent the past three years absorbed in a military adventure of its own making.
The commentary says that in the first nine months of 2026 alone it received 365 planeloads of military materiel from the United Arab Emirates. Since that expenditure is beyond Ethiopia's means, it argues, it is financed by forces seeking to control the region and its resources.
It adds that over the past eight years the government has received more than 30 billion dollars in external financial assistance from a range of donors. In the same period some 21.4 million Ethiopians have fallen into severe need and depend on humanitarian aid for survival.
The priorities of the government are to serve external agendas at the cost of the safety of Ethiopia's own people and of regional peace, the commentary concludes, pointing to its posture towards the sovereignty of Eritrea and Sudan as evidence.
