China sets out four principles on northern Ethiopia
Xi Jinping cites African leadership, sovereignty, an end to hostilities and addressing root causes.

China’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, Mao Ning, said at a briefing on 19 October that President Xi Jinping has put forward four principles for resolving current conflicts in Africa.
The first gives priority to African leadership, holding that the people of Africa, as the true masters of their continent, should play the central role in regional affairs.
The second says all parties should respect the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, together with the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
The third is to halt hostilities and build peace, making clear that unilateral sanctions and war are not a solution.
The fourth is to identify and understand both the symptoms and the root causes of a conflict. Beijing said the principles also point a way through the problems of the Horn of Africa.
