The United Nations has expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in Ethiopia, citing the new alliance formed between armed groups, continuing insecurity, and drone attacks.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, told the daily briefing that at a moment of heightened tension all parties should refrain from actions or statements that could further inflame the situation.

Military action does not resolve political differences, he said, and it does not answer the underlying grievances either.

He closed by calling on the organisations involved to show renewed commitment to dialogue.
