Russia flies nuclear-capable bombers over the Baltic
The Russian defence ministry says the flights secured its maritime territory.

Russia flew strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons through the airspace over the Baltic Sea on 16 October.
The Russian defence ministry said the purpose was to safeguard the security of the country’s maritime territory, adding that the flights were conducted in accordance with international law and did not adversely affect other states.
Reports note that Russia carried out similar activity over the Baltic in June and July.
It has also conducted flights over the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Black Sea.
The United States and other countries carry out comparable flights over the same waters.
