Professor Ezekiel: arrogance will cost Prosperity dearly
Population size does not decide sovereignty, he says, urging Ethiopia’s leaders to learn from history.

The prominent Ethiopian scholar Professor Ezekiel Gabissa says the boast attributed to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed that we are 200 million against two million is meaningless, because population size does not decide sovereignty.
Underestimating Eritrea will cost the Prosperity Party leadership dearly, he warned in an interview with Addis Standard, recalling that the Eritrean people’s armed struggle began after Ethiopia unlawfully dissolved the Eritrean federation.
If you do not learn from history you will repeat it, the professor said, arguing that by trying to reopen a chapter the EPRDF had closed, Prosperity has taken a bloody road that resolves nothing between Eritrea and Ethiopia and is pushing the country towards another war.
His message, he said, is that leaders must allow themselves to be examined, accept responsibility and make an effort to understand the other side.
