Meskel was celebrated nationally at Bahti Meskerem Square in Asmara on Sunday, 17 Meskerem 2019 in the Ge'ez calendar — 27 September 2026.

The ceremony, which began in the early morning, was attended by ministers and senior government and Front officials, archbishops, bishops and members of the Holy Synod, diplomats accredited to Eritrea, religious leaders and thousands of worshippers.

Abune Basilios I, the sixth Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, opened the programme with prayer, after which the liturgy was celebrated.

Clergy and scholars performed the traditional rites, while Sunday school choirs from churches across Asmara marked the feast with spiritual performances.

After the closing supplication, the Patriarch, accompanied by archbishops, bishops and religious leaders, blessed the Damera from its four corners and lit it, bringing the celebration to a close with a benediction.
